LIVERPOOL REPORTEDLY MAKE CONTACT WITH OUT-OF-CONTRACT STAR ADRIEN RABIOT
The Frenchman was a starter for his nation at Euro 2024.
The potential transfer, however, comes with several complexities, notably involving Rabiot’s agent and mother, Veronique Rabiot, who has a history of demanding high fees and being labeled a ‘mercenary’ within football circles.
Veronique Rabiot’s reputation has been a significant factor in Adrien’s career moves, often negotiating hard terms that have strained relationships with clubs like Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Juventus.
Juventus decided against extending Rabiot’s contract partly due to the high fees reportedly demanded by his mother, which they were unwilling to meet.
This history of tough negotiations and financial demands has made some clubs wary of engaging in deals involving Rabiot.
At 29 years old, Rabiot does not fit the typical age profile that Liverpool’s former sporting director Michael Edwards and the Fenway Sports Group (FSG) usually target.
The club traditionally prefers younger players who can develop and provide long-term value.
This raises questions about whether Rabiot is a suitable investment for Liverpool, especially considering their focus on building a squad for the future
WHAT IS THE LATEST UPDATE ON ADRIEN RABIOT AND LIVERPOOL?
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has reported that Liverpool and Adrien Rabiot have been in contact.
It was labelled as ‘new contacts’ yesterday, but no agreement has been reached as things stand.
Juventus is said to have made an offer of around €7.5/8 million year for two years, but this was declined by Rabiot and his entourage.
It remains to be seen what his demands will be at Anfield, but they will not be cheap.
However, Liverpool legend John Barnes recently talked up the midfielder, saying that he is a good option but only because hes on a free:
“Rabiot, he doesn’t necessarily play as a holding midfield player. But he will defend. He got far with his team in France (at EURO 2024). He’s a good player.”
“He’s on a free. So he’s a good one to take because, you know, he’s always been consistent. So I wouldn’t mind seeing him come in.”
“He’s good on the ball. He’s a good defensive midfield player who could also break forward and make passes.”
“Not going to score many goals, but I think he’d be a good addition to the squad, particularly if he’s on a free.
